Review & Tasting Notes

The Woodford ReserveToasted Oak Oat Grain Bourbon Distillery Series release is compromised of fully maturedWoodford Reserve Oat Grain Bourbon. Next, it is finished in a second, heavily toasted barrel, and then bottled at 90.4 proof. Those extra steps and focus on the final product results in a beautiful topaz color shining through theflask-like375mlbottle that has became expected from Woodford Reserve Distillery.

Inside the bottle itself is full of aroma that features spice notes that range fromcinnamon raisin oatmeal cookie dusted with cocoa, dark chocolate shavings and then drizzled with dark molasses. As for the juice itself, with the first sip your palate will be greeted withspice notes that range from clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg to citrus and dark chocolate.

As mentioned, the Distillery Series itself is an experimental series. That goes for the fans and for the Master Distiller. “Experimenting with new ways of making Woodford Reserve is one of my favorite parts of my job,” said Master Distiller Chris Morris. “It allows us to explore new flavors with our bourbon.”

When compared to other bourbons, the oats in the mashbill create a sticky mash which is more challenging to regulate. However, the results are distinctly oatmeal, raisins, dates, cinnamon, and brown sugar.

MSRP & Secondary Price

This 2022 Limited Edition release is only available in a 375ml bottle which resembles a similar flask-like looking bottle the distillery uses for the most of its releases, but in smaller form.Woodford DoubleToasted Oak Oat Grain has an MSRP of $60. Being as it is a limited edition offering with limited allocation, the secondary market price will surely have you paying more than that.

However, you usually don’t see these bottles pop up on the secondary market at scale. With suggested retail pricing set for $60, your best option is probably to just take a roadtrip to the distillery.
