Sturgill Simpson’s performance at The Ryman was a decision he made as a call to action after fans helped raise $250,000 for charity. Additionally, during the show, Simpson will ask viewers to donate to the following foundations: Special Forces, the Equity Alliance, and the MusicCares Covid 19 fund.

Earlier this week, Simpson also announced that he will be cutting a new bluegrass album via Instagram, a post he deleted (as many know, he tends to do that very often.)

About a year ago, Sturgill made his first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in four years where he showcased his Kentucky roots by playing a bluegrass set with a band of pickers including Sierra Hull on mandolin and Stuart Duncan on fiddle. Importantly, legend John Prine was also part of that evenings show.

During the show this Friday, fans can purchase limited edition merchandise that will benefit the fundraiser. We’re certainly looking forward to the show, and the money that will be raised for a good cause.
