Sturgill Simpson Announces that He Will Be Recording a Bluegrass Album via Instagram

On Monday morning, Simpson shared a video with Miles Miller (drummer), David Ferguson (producer), Tim O’Brien, Stuart Duncan and Mike Bub (bassist) walking into their studio – all of which are names of the bluegras scene.

Due to fan contributions, Sturgill successfully raised close to $230,000 which he donated to several charities. In his announcement on instagram, he shared that he will be taking a break from the five album plan to cut his back catalog of songs, all of which are in the bluegrass genre.

Sturgill Simpson Plans to Release Bluegrass Album

About a year ago, Sturgill made his first appearance at the Grand Ole Opry in four years where he showcased his Kentucky roots by playing a bluegrass set with a band of pickers including Sierra Hull on mandolin and Stuart Duncan on fiddle. Importantly, legend John Prine was also part of that evenings show.

Additionally, both Sturgill and Tyler Childers did have a full year of plans with their 2020 “Good Look’n” Tour“, which was unfortunately cancelled due to the global pandemic. We can’t wait to see what the new bluegrass project will sound like, but we already know it’s going to be something special if Simpson is already warning fans to get the Zyrtec ready!

“Get your Zyrtec ready cuz we cuttin’ that grass.”
