Football

The football history of Kentucky goes back to the 1800’s. Until about 1913, University of Kentucky was known as “Kentucky State College.” Transylvania University was known as Kentucky University. The first intercollegiate game in Kentucky was played in 1880. The Kentucky Wildcats program represents the University of Kentucky in the sport. The Louisville Cardinals team represents the University of Louisville in the sport. The Wildcats and compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association and the Eastern Division of the Southeastern Conference, while the Cardinals compete in the Atlantic Coast division.
