Florida Gators Football Visits Lexington to Face Undefeated Kentucky Wildcats

Once again, it’s game day in the South! With today’s Florida vs Kentucky football game, the University of Kentucky would be facing it’s toughest SEC conference game for the 2023 college football season. Nevertheless, UK Football would continue their perfect season, moving to 5-0, while Florida moves to 3-2.

TheUK vs Florida football final game score was 14-33. Kentucky’s win over Florida is the largest margin of victory in over 40 years. Kentucky dominates the game from end to end, adding to a flawless 5-0 record, including a 2-0 record in the Southeastern Conference. Meanwhile, Florida trails behind with a respectable 3-2 overall record, including a 1-1 record in the league, with a huge early win over #11 Tennessee.

Recap

Florida had the first possession to open the game but went three and out, paving the way for Kentucky to take over. On their first drive, Kentucky quickly gained ground and settled for a field goal, taking the lead. Then, an interception by Trevin Wallace set up a touchdown pass from Leary to Davis, extending Kentucky’s lead. Florida managed their first down, but ultimately had to punt. On the very next play, Davis scored his second touchdown of the game, bringing the score to 16-0 to close out the first quarter of football.

Early in the second quarter, Florida punted and UK took over at their own 20. On the drive, Davis gained 16 and 33 yards, surpassing 200 yards rushing. He scored a three-yard rush, extending UK’s lead to 23-0. Florida made one first down but penalties halted their progress, forcing them to punt. Kentucky got one first down before punting. Florida started their best drive, scoring a four-yard touchdown pass to cut the UK lead to 23-7. Halftime score: 23-7.

Kentucky started the second half strong with a 31-yard run by Davis, leading to a two-yard rushing touchdown. The Cats extended their lead to 30-7. However, Florida responded with a 33-yard touchdown pass, reducing the margin to 30-14. Kentucky punted on their next drive, and Florida took over at their own 20. The Gators were forced to punt again, and the quarter ended with Kentucky still leading 30-14.

In the fourth quarter, Florida drove near midfield. However, on fourth and four from their own 43, Mertz’s pass to Arlis Boardingham was stopped short by Alex Afari. UK took over at the Florida 47 with 11:24 to play. Next, the Cats focused on the ground game to drain the clock, with Davis rushing for gains of five, nine, two, and one, bringing them to the 30-yard line. The drive stalled, but Raynor made an incredible 50-yard field goal, extending UK’s lead to 33-14 with 7:44 remaining. He’s perfect for the year, with his range on full display!

Wildcat running back Ray Davis rushed for a career-high 280 yards as Kentucky defeated No. 22/23 Florida 33-14. Davis carried the ball 26 times for 280 yards and three rushing touchdowns. His rushing total was the third highest in UK history, just 19 yards short of Moe Williams’ record set in 1995. Davis also caught a pass for a touchdown. His four touchdowns tied the most in Kentucky school history. Kentucky had 329 rushing yards compared to 69 for the Gators. Maxwell Hairston who was coming off a huge game with two pick six plays led the Cats with 10 tackles this week, and Alex Afari had nine.
