Kentucky Wildcats Football Takes Nasvhille to Face Vanderbilt Commadores
Once again, it’s game day in the South! With today’s Kentucky vs Vanderbilt football game, the University of Kentucky would be facing it’s first SEC conference game for the 2023 college football season. UK Football would continue their perfect season, moving to 4-0, while Vanderbilt moves to 2-3.

TheUK vs Vandy football final game score was 45-28. This brings the Cats to 1-0 in 2023 Southeastern Conference rankings, and adds another win tohead coach Mark Stoops’ record as the winningest coach all-time for the University of Kentucky football program.

In a display of strength and skill, Kentucky started the game with a strong offensive performance. However, the UK defense proved to be a formidable force, forcing Vanderbilt to punt after just one first down. This game only reinforced the idea that the Kentucky defense is a crucial component of this year’s team.
When the Wildcats took over on offense, they swiftly advanced into Vanderbilt territory thanks to a penalty. Quarterback Leary made crucial connections with Key and Brown for first downs, and McClain ran 36 yards up the middle for a touchdown. The Cats took an early 7-0 lead with 9:51 remaining in the first quarter.
Vanderbilt’s next drive ended in a fumble that was intercepted by Hairston and returned for a touchdown by Kentucky. The Cats extended their lead to 14-0 with 8:14 left in the first.
The Kentucky defense forced another quick punt by Vanderbilt, allowing the Cats to regain possession. In a strong offensive drive, Leary connected with Brown for a 56-yard gain, leading to a touchdown by Davis. Kentucky’s lead increased to 21-0 with 1:56 left in the first quarter.
Vanderbilt struggled to move the ball and was forced to punt again, giving Kentucky another opportunity on offense. The Cats put together a lengthy drive that resulted in a field goal, increasing their lead to 24-0.
In Vanderbilt’s most successful drive of the half, they reached the UK 23-yard line but could only settle for a field goal. The score was 24-3 in favor of Kentucky at halftime.
The third quarter started with both teams exchanging punts until Vanderbilt’s Ugochukwu intercepted a pass. However, the Kentucky defense held strong, allowing only a field goal and maintaining a 24-13 lead.
Kentucky struggled to move the ball on their next possession, resulting in a punt. Vanderbilt took advantage of good field position but was unable to score a touchdown.
The momentum shifted when UK linebacker Jackson intercepted Vanderbilt’s pass and led to another touchdown by Davis. Kentucky extended their lead to 31-13 with 6:44 left in the third quarter.
Vanderbilt fought back, scoring a touchdown and converting the two-point conversion to narrow the gap to 38-21.
Kentucky had a chance to extend their lead but had to punt. Vanderbilt was moving the ball but was intercepted by Hairston, who returned it for his second pick-six of the game. Kentucky had an impressive 45-21 lead with 4:15 remaining.
Vanderbilt managed a late touchdown, resulting in a final score of 45-28.
