The Michigan State Spartans are ranked in the AP Top25, and will likely improve their rankings after this game.

Louisville Head Coach Chris Mack would return for this big game, after completing his six-game suspension to start the 2021-2022 college basketball season. The school handed down the suspension after the head coach failed to follow procedures in handling a prior extortion attempt by one of his assistant coaches.
The UofL team is still figuring things out to say the least. Especially with a roster that includes eight new players on the team. However, they did come off a strong showing with two good wins against Maryland and Mississippi State to winthe Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas championship.
In this game however, both teams were both up and down. Louisville is still struggling to find its identity in the offense, a Michigan State coughed up the ball on 19 turnovers. Nonetheless, that’s partly due to the credit of the Cardinals defense.
Nonetheless, Louisville’s El Ellis scored 22 points on the night, and went on a run to produce 16 of those in only six minutes of play! This streak came during a much-needed time as the game winded down, cutting the deficit to eight points with only 1:26 left to play. However, that was as close as the Cardinals would get to erasing a 20-point spread in the second half.
The Cardinals shot 25-of-61 from the floor, and got outrebounded by the Spartans 31-37. Louisville shot only 25.9% from behind the arc, while Michigan State shot a blistering 55.6%. That was a better average than their overall field goal percentage even.
Next up, Louisville basketball will face NC State which is ahead of them in the early rankings at 6-1.
