The Cardinals will kick off this basketball season participating in the Wade Houston Classic at the KFC Yum center in Louisville Kentucky. UofL will open up against Southern Illinois, and then face-off against Seton Hall, Prairie View A&M, nearby Western Kentucky, and UNC Greensboro all within this tournament.
An early date to mark for the Cardinals will also come in the ACC-Big 10 Challenge as they lace up against 7th ranked Wisconsin on December 9th. From there Cardinal fans will probably be looking forward to a December 26 matchup against in-state rivals n10th ranked Kentucky. As the Cardinals move into ACC Conference play in January, UofL will face 21st ranked Florida State and 9th ranked Duke within a span of just 5 days. February will bring a matchup against 4th ranked Virginia, 16th ranked North Carolina in Chapel Hill, as well as another visit to the Tar Heel State to play at Duke. March doesn’t get any easier for the University of Louisville as they finish the ACC Conference schedule against top-ranked Virginia again.
As you can see the Cardinals have a competitive schedule ahead of them, with 8 of the 27 scheduled games being played against college basketball teams ranked in the AP Top 25 preseason poll. There’s also a possibility that some of these other teams currently unranked in the ACC could jump into the Top 25 somewhere during the season. Over the past 13 years, Louisville‘s strength of schedule has been one of the toughest 20 in the nation, so we’re betting this year’s rating will not be much different when the dust settles.
As this year‘s college basketball season starts during uncertain times. The ACC has decided not to set any buffers within the schedule to allow for potential make up games. The league states “any conference games that are unable to be played will only be rescheduled if both teams schedules permit it.”
Also to be noted, you notice some games have multiple dates. That is simply because it is yet to be decided whether the game will be a Tuesday or Wednesday game. With several players on the Louisville roster being sidelined to start the season, how do you think the Cardinals will fare this season?
