Recap
This key matchup in the Battle of the Blue saw the Wildcats open up the game with a 75-yard touchdown drive. Frankly, they never looked back! This marks the seventh time in the 2021 college football season that they have done so during their first possession.
The Cats would go on a blistering pace, to score seven times during their first eight possessions. UK would produce 511 yards of total offense on the night, which marked the fifth time this season that Kentucky would accomplish this milestone. More importantly however, UK would rush for a season-high 362 yards on the night. Even University of Kentucky quarterback Will Levis would get in on the action, rushing for 113 yards himself, breaking ankles, slipping through the line of scrimmage, and even hurdling defenders. Kentucky has established itself as Hurdle U right, so it only seems fitting!
The Kentucky Wildcats would ultimately rush for seven touchdowns, which breaks a Governor’s Cup record, which was set by UofL in 2006 with six rushing touchdowns. UK would go on to match that record in 2019. Nonetheless, a new record was established on the night by the Wildcats ground game.
