In Kentucky, we celebrate every occasion with a good ole’ glass of bourbon. Why should it be any different on Cinco de Mayo or National Margarita Day? Today, we’re ditching the classic tequila for our native best friend – bourbon! Get the Kentucky Bourbon Margarita Recipe below!
Didn’t think you could make a margarita with bourbon, did you? Surprisingly, you can make a margarita with bourbon with just a few simple ingredients. Although tequila is typically the number one ingredient in this cocktail, we want to try something unique, different, and fun to combine our cultures together!
Why Do We Celebrate Cinco De Mayo?
Cinco de Mayo is an annual celebration held on May 5. The date is observed to commemorate the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza. The holiday is celebrated with parades, food, music, folkloric dancing, battle reenactments, and of course with our very own Kentucky Margarita Recipe!
What day is National Margarita Day?
Every year on February 22 is National Margarita Day. The original margarita was created in Mexico in 1938 and includes, triple sec, tequila, and lime juice. However, in Kentucky we like to add our own little spin, including our spirit of choice of course. Especially since we know a thing or two about developing cocktails and spirits as well. That’s why the Kentucky Margarita replaces the tequila portion with Bourbon!
To celeb pay homage to our favorite celebratory cocktail. The margarita — triple sec, tequila, and lime juice — was created in 1938 in Mexico and is widely considered the official drink of having fun.
