Couples KFC proposal goes viral, so we’re sending love from Kentucky!
Here lies a South African fast food fairytale, and we’re talkin’ Kentucky Bride Chicken! Hector Kansi proposed to his now wife Nonhlanhla at the KFC chain restaurant. The video of the KFC proposal was shared on social media by outside observer Kateka Malobola. The recording has been viewed over 1.4 million times on Twitter going viral with hashtags such as #KFCProposal and #KFCWedding. At the time, the couple had no idea that the proposal was recorded. Nevertheless, due to the viral moment, countless strangers have been offering to help them with their dream wedding, even more so after a reporter shamed the couple’s engagement on social media.
Undoubtedly, most were touched by the proposal, while journalist and self-proclaimed feminist Anele shamed the groom to be for being “too broke.”
Companies started flooding the couple with donations. The list got so long that even a spreadsheet was created to track the acts of kindness! The list ranged from wedding stress relief movie date night tickets to custom wedding rings. Additionally, invitations and outfits were on the list, as were several food and drink vendors.
“Just like your chicken and our Coke® are the perfect pair, and we’re all for bringing people together. The soft drinks for the wedding are on us!” tweeted Coca Cola South Africa.” – Coca Cola Tweet
Post wedding festivities were among offers too. Audi offered a ride to their Cape Town honeymoon! The couple is overwhelmed with gratitude. KFC South Africa tweeted “South Africa, you guys are amazing” and plans to meet with the couple to keep fans posted on developments.
