Square 6 Distilled at Evan Williams Bourbon Experience, First Artisanal Whiskey Released Onsite
The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience in downtown Louisville Is most notably known for tasting and tours on whiskey row. Now they are offering a new reason for bourbon enthusiasts to visit their venue on 528 West Main Street. That is a super limited high-rye bourbon named Square 6. This Evan Williams Square 6 expressions becomes a new bourbon release for the brand.
The Heaven Hill Square 6 Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey is produced by artisanal distiller Jodie Filiatreau. This becomes the first artisanal whiskey release produced onsite at the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience.

The meaning behind the name is a reference to the original plot of land where Evan Williams built his original distillery. This is known as the first commercial distillery in 1783, which was also the first commercial distillery in Kentucky. This same plot of land on Whiskey Row in downtown Louisville is where the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience sits today — Square 6!
The Evan Williams Bourbon Experience is a relatively small facility, which doubles as an innovation distillery. The distillery portion itself produces 1 barrel of whiskey per day.
Tasting Notes & Review
As for the whiskey itself, The Kentucky straight bourbon whiskey does not have an aged statement. However, if you’ve been keeping track, distilling was first started for this projeect 8 years ago. Visually, it has a beautiful golden amber color. The nose is highlighted with notes of tobacco, fig and honey. The palette features earthy notes with cardamom and cinnamon, while the finish is short and dry.

Proof & ABV
This artisanal whiskey is bottled at 95 proof, which is equal to 47.5% ABV.

Mash Bill
As previously mentioned, this expression from Evan Williams is a high-rye offering. Rye represents 35% of this mash bill. The prominent grain in every bourbon is corn, and it accounts for 52% in this spirit. Technically, bourbon has to contain 51% corn to pass the legal requirements established by law. The last 13% of the Square 6 mash bill is 13% malted barley.

Price & Release
The MSRP for this limited release whiskey is set at $90. However, as the bourbon hype builds, we’ll have to see where this lands on the secondary market pricing. Since this bourong is produced in essentially a micro-distillery, limited quantities will be available for purchase. According to Heaven Hill, you will be able to purchase this by visiting the Evan Williams Bourbon Experience. Additionally, select Kentucky retailers will offer this bottle.
Max L. Shapira, Heaven Hill Distillery President, held a presser where they rolled barrels down Whiskey Row into the venue. He prclaimed, “from the first day Artisanal Distiller, Emeritus Charlie Downs turned on the stills nearly five years ago to Artisanal Distiller Jodie Filiatreau patiently waiting years for this product to come of age in the barrel, today we celebrate Heaven Hill’s commitment to quality and attention to detail.”
