WKU beats Arkansas, and takes home $1.5MM
WKU came out to win the coin toss, and never really looked back. They chose to differ on the opening kickoff, which started Arkansas with the ball on their own 25. The Razorbacks immediately threw an inception, which gave WKU the ball on the Arkansas 42. The Hilltoppers would go onto score after a 19-yard run from Sloan.
The Razorbacks get the ball back on the 12-yard line off the kickoff, then get a huge run from Rakeem Boyd on a 76-yard touchdown run! This tied the game up at 7 to 7 with 8:02 left, but that was the closest Arkansas would be for the rest of the game. WKU went onto having 5 drives which resulted in 5 touchdowns, and that was just in the first half of play. Arkansas went into the half down 35 to 7.
Coming out in the second half, WKU picks up where they left off, making a strong drive which added a field goal, stretching the lead to 38 to 7. The Razorbacks then get another huge run from Rakeem Boyd, as he makes an 86-yard for a touchdown. This made his second career-high run in the game, after the prior 76-yard sprint. Nonetheless, Arkansas missed the extra point making the score 38 to 13.
Next The Hilltoppers grab a pick six, and the defense picks up a touchdown off of an interception by Devon Key. This puts Western up 45 to 13. Arkansas will add another touchdown to bring the score to 45 to 19, and that’s where the betting lines ends to close the game. The big storyline of the game was Hilltopper QB Ty Storey, who actually transferred from Arkansas and played a terrific game against his former team! As for Arkansas, the crushing defeat brings critics to call for coach Chad Morris to be replaced.
So what about the $1.5MM?
To make things even worse for Arkansas, it was reported by BG Daily News that they paid Western Kentucky University $1.5MM to take the matchup. Maybe the Razorbacks haven’t been paying close attention over the past several years, because it seems WKU thrives in these matchups with SEC teams! They’ve actually 4 of these matchups, against stronger SEC opponents which most would bet against The Hilltoppers.
