Louisville suffers first loss against Texas Tech in Jimmy V Classic.
The Louisville Cardinals faced off against the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden for a hard fought game. Louisville becomes the latest #1 to fall in college basketball, and suffers their first loss of the season against Texas Tech, 70-57. The college basketball season is only in its 6th week, but this is already the 5th #1 team to fall. Even more surprising, Texas Tech was coming off a three-game losing streak prior to this game, and without arguably their best player.
The Red Raiders relentless defense was the story of the game, holding the Cards to only 34% shooting. While Jordan Nwora continued to led Louisville in scoring per usual, Louisville just couldn’t get their offense going. Nwora finished below his season average, with 14 points in the loss. The Red Raiders were led by Davide Moretti, who had 18 points on the night.
Let’s not forget that Texas Tech played in the National Championship game just last season. Their head coach said, “Felt like a February-, March-type basketball game, the way it was played.” He stated, “We had to get shots early. I like the way my guys played. We got fast-break baskets, and did enough offensively.”
Louisville faces off against Kentucky on December 28th, who is looking like the stronger team currently? However, with Louisville falling in this game, expect another upcoming opponent UK’s to move up. Ohio State currently sits at #3, and faces Kentucky on December 21st.
