#2 Louisville holds off Akron, after nearly blowing a 22-point lead

The #2 Louisville Cardinals led big against Akron, up 22 at one point, before edging out the game in the final minutes to pull off the win. Louisville’s Ryan McMahon hit 2 much needed free throws with 16.8 seconds remaining against Akron to hold off an upset.

Akron was down big early in the second half, 55-33, before closing the gap to 78-74 to leave Cardinal fans on the edge of their seats! After shooting above 50% for the first 5 games, Louisville only shot 33% in the second half to make for a tense moment. They actually did not make a field goal in the final 4:02 of the basketball game. Coach Chris Mack suggested the Cardinals still have a long way to go , “we have not earned that yet, just as every team in the country in my opinion has not earned that yet.”

Louisville closed the game with 4 players in double figures. Jordan Nwora led the Cards with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Steven Enoch added another 17 points with 5 rebounds. Dwayne Sutton and Ryan McMahon contributed 10 points each, with Sutton also grabbing a game-high 14 rebounds.
