Heaven Hill Distillery
History
Heaven Hill distillery was founded in 1935 and is it headquartered in Bardstown Kentucky. It is American owned and also a privately held business which is family operated. The company now owns a portfolio of distilled spirits including Heaven Hill Brands. They are the seventh largest alcohol producer in the United States, the second largest holder of the bourbon in the world, and the largest independent family owned spirits producer in America.
Shortly after the repeal of Prohibition, a group of investors founded the company in 1935. Joseph L. Beam was one of those early investors, alongside and a member of the Shapira family. As the company started to develop, the Shapira family bought out the other investors, however Joe Beam remained as master distiller. His son Harry would eventually come on board to bolster the family’s heritage. descendants of these founding families have remained a core part of the company from its inception to date. Each of the Master Distillers throughout history have been descendants of the Beam family. Also, the Shapira family still own and operate the business til this day.
Joseph L. beam was the first cousin of Jim Beam. After Joe’s son Henry took the helm, he was followed by Jim Beam’s nephew, Earl. Following in Earl beams footsteps brings you to the current master distillers, Parker Beam alongside his son Craig Beam.
Although Heaven Hill Distillery has a rich heritage, it has not always been recognized with this nameplate. It originally they viewed as “Old Heavenhill Springs.” Naturally, being built in the “bourbon capital of the world,” it was launched as a bourbon distillery first. It produces Kentucky straight bourbon with its likeness, Heaven Hill, which features several product offerings under that umbrella. These bourbons cover all ranges and price points in the spectrum, from mass production affordably whiskeys to super premiums. Some enthusiasts would view these products as a value brand. Heaven Hill Single Barrel or their 7-year Bottled in Bond would be prime examples of that. Its flagship bourbon labels are Evan Williams and Elijah Craig. In the last couple of decades the company has looked to diversify its portfolio of brands and acquired brands or their importing rights in the gin, vodka, and malt whiskey categories, alongside other alcoholic beverages.
