SEC Tourney Quaterfinals matchup sees Vanderbilt vs Kentucky matchup
The SEC Tournament is in full swing as the Vanderbilt vs Kentucky basketball game is the Wildcats first postseason test of the 2021-2022 college basketball season. In this year’s SEC Tourney, Vandy has become a pesky opponent who has been hard to put away. This game would be no different.

Kentucky came into the SEC Tournament as the No. 3 seed, which is somewhat ironic since Joe Lunardi has them as his No. 5 overall seed in the NCAA overall. The No. 1 seed Auburn got knocked out earlier in the day, so UK and UT are the highest seeded teams remaining.

Scottie Pippen Jr. came into this game looking forward playing Kentucky, after dropping 32 points and 33 points on them during the South Eastern Conference regular season matchups. The Cats would have an answer during this SEC Tournament Vanderbilt vs Kentucky game however. Pippen Jr. would finish the game with only 10 points and 7 assists in this game.
Nonetheless, the Commodores showed grit in this game, after gaining confidence in wins over Georgia and NCAA-bound Alabama. They ran out of steam in this game however, as Pippen Jr. shot 3 air balls as it appeared his legs were gone. Vandy’s Jordan Wright picked up the slack nonetheless, scoring 27 points on 10-of-12 shooting. Still, that wasn’t enough against a UK team that has so many options and answers.
The Wildcats shot 30-of-61 from the floor, and 7-of-15 from behind the arch. That equals 50% from the field shooting, and 46.7% from behind the three point line. The Cats shot the ball well from the charity stripe, going 10-13 at 76.9%.

Kentucky moves to 26-6 on the season, while Vanderbilt is 17-16. UK will move onto the SEC Semifinals for a rubber game against Tennessee. Vandy’s postseason hopes come to an end, which will likely land them in the NIT Tournament instead of the Big Dance.
