Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football Visits Louisville to Face Undefeated UofL Cardinals
It’s game day y’all! With today’s Notre Dame vs Louisville football game, the University of Louisville would be facing it’s toughest game for the 2023 college football season. Nevertheless, UofL Football would continue their perfect season, moving to 6-0, with a huge win in front of a sold out crowd of 59,081 in L&N Stadium to upset #10 Notre Dame. In attendance were the likes of Louisville greats, Jack Harlow and Donovan Mitchell.

TheNotre Dame vs Louisville football final game score was 20-33. Louisville’s win over Notre Dame moves the matchup to an even 2-2 record. UofL has held its opponent scoreless in the first quarter for the 7th straight game. This marks the longest streak since 1973, where they also went 7 straight games.

The whole city of Louisville, KY was ready for this game as excitement around the UofL football program builds. Bars were packed, and for only the second time since L&N Stadium was redesigned in 2019, the football game was sold out! With the first big milestone win under new headcoach Jeff Bromh, the Cardinals remain undefeated and now become bowl eligible.
Notre Dame would open the game with the ball and that’s where the Fighting Irish quarterback’s troubles would also begin. Same Hartman threw his first of three interceptions to start the game, and the high-powered Louisville offense would cash in on a quick 9-yard touchdown. This has been a trend of the Cardinals this season. They have jumped on opponents to a tune of 48-0 scoring in the first quarter points over their last seven games. Nonetheless, the Irish would bounce back in the second quarter after Hartman connected on a 36-yard touchdown reception. Going into halftime, the score of this college football game would be 7-7.
Coming out in the second half, Notre Dame connected on a tremendous 53-yard field goal that would give the Irish their first lead of the game. Louisville’s offense would fight back on the following drive, hitting a field goal themselves which tied the game again at 10-10. The score would stay deadlocked until the 5-minute mark in the third quarter. Louisville would go for a huge 45-yard touchdown to pull ahead 17-10. Before the end of the third quarter, the Fighting Irish would respond with another field goal to close the gap to 17-13.
The fourth quarter would prove to be a disaster for Notre Dame with the Louisville defense making huge third down stops and forcing multiple turnovers. Louisville DB Devin Neal would come up with two interceptions, crushing the Fighting Irish’s attempts to stage a comeback.

The Cardinals offense would continue to get stronger as the game drew to a close, putting up their biggest quarter of the game with a 16-point effort. UofL running back Jordan would go for a big 21-yard rushing touchdown to give the Card their first double-digit lead of the game. A pivotal point of the game came when Notre Dame chose to go for it on 4th & 11 on their own 35 yard line with 9:49 remaining in the game. The Fighting Irish were trailing by 11 points at this point, when Louisville came up with a huge stop!
Then Louisville kicker BrockTravelstead would connect on three consecutive field goals to add 9 more points, putting ice on the game and potentially any chances of Notre Dame making the college football playoffs this season.
The UofL defensive came up huge, getting 5 quarterback sacks and forcing 3 interceptions against Notre Dame. The Cards would also hold the Irish to only 44 total yards rushing, while they went for 185 rushing yards of their own, including two Jawhar Jordan touchdowns. Jordan would rush for 143 yards on 21 carries. The passing attack for Louisville would add another 145 yards of offense including one Jamari Thrash touchdown. Quarterback Jack Plummer finished the game on 17-of-24 passing attempts for 145 yards, with one touchdown pass.
