This game wasn’t really suppose to happen. UK was scheduled to play UCLA this weekend, giving Johnny Juzang a chance to face-off against his former team. However, Covid forced a change of plans, pitting teams with a closer proximity against each other in the CBS Sports Classic. Nonetheless, this set of southern Blue Bloods battled it out in a highly competitive game. The North Carolina vs Kentucky basketball score landed at 75-63 when the final horn sounded.

Kentucky actually jumped out to a nice start, leading for more than 24 minutes. BJ Boston Jr started strong, but then fell flat in the second half. UK went for a streak from roughly the 12-minute mark to the 4-minute mark without scoring a goal. UNC eventually stretched the lead as the game started to wind down.

Kentucky continued to turn the ball over, coughing up the ball 16 times during the game. They finished 3 of 13 from the three point line, a similar trend we’ve saw this season. Overall, they were 40% from the field in shooting. However, foul trouble was a huge issue with four Wildcats fouling out. That included Olivier Sarr, Terrence Clarke, Lance Ware, and Isaiah Jackson.

Kentucky falls to 1-5 on the young and unique season. This marks the worst start in program history since the 1926-27 season. That was also a unique season for UK, when the basketball team was mostly comprised of football players. This is the fifth straight loss for the Cats, which has also never happened for Coach Cal at the University of Kentucky.
