Musical Inspiration

If you need a major dose of inspiration for your music, look no further than Mammoth Cave! Since the early 1800s, classical musicians, choirs and contemporary artists have been flocking to this world-famous destination – not just because it looks cool (which it does), but also because its unique acoustics make all kinds of music sound amazing. And now? The park has partnered with Louisville Orchestra so that even more creatives can experience first hand how nature’s beauty can unleash their inner musician.

Mammoth Cave National Park has inspired Teddy Abrams to compose a breathtaking performance for its upcoming special event. After spending over a year exploring and immersing himself in the park’s rich history, he crafted his masterpiece with renowned cellist Yo-Yo Ma – sure to bring tears of joy or awe!

When is the show?

Did we mention this epic musical performance is free to attend? All you have to do is enter a lottery through Recreation.gov on Monday, Jan 30th – and hope your name gets called! The Louisville Orchestra will accompany Mr. Ma as they celebrate the majesty of nature using music that touches both heart and soul; performances are scheduled April 29 at 11am & 3pm CDT – mark those calendars now!.

“We are thrilled to offer this amazing opportunity to experience the sounds of Yo-Yo Ma and the Louisville Orchestra inside Mammoth Cave,” said Park Superintendent Barclay Trimble. “Music is universally loved and recognized as a way to connect and bring people together. Mammoth Cave has been a source of artistic inspiration for thousands of years and now through a composition created by Teddy Abrams and a historic performance by Yo-Yo Ma, we can add another fantastic musical moment to the cave’s history.”

This one-of-a kind occasion promises to be musically memorable! Mammoth Cave National Park is the muse for Teddy Abrams’ new composition, which was crafted specifically with Yo-Yo Ma’s unique talents in mind. Through extensive exploration of its geology and human history over the last year, Abrams gained invaluable insight into this cavernous wonderland – ensuring an awe inspiring auditory experience that will leave no ear unfulfilled!

“Visitors have always been drawn to Mammoth Cave to experience its ancient stillness and expansiveness,” explained Abrams. “It’s no surprise that this otherworldly treasure has inspired art in all forms, some of which can still be seen in the cave. Performing music in a cave where untold generations of people before us have created their own music connects us in a vital way to our past.”
