Review & Tasting Notes
Maker’s Mark is wrapping up their Wood Finishing Series with a bang! If you’re a bourbon enthusiast, the Loretto, KY distillery has a treat for you with their new limited-release BEP Bourbon. The grand finale, dubbed “BEP” (Barrel Entry Proof), is packed with 110.7 proof (55.35% ABV) and has been spiked with ten virgin toasted oak staves.
This sweet elixir is made with their unique 110 barrel entry proof (BEP), which means bigger flavor in every sip. The low BEP allows for a balanced wood sugar taste, softer tannins, and a lasting finish that you won’t forget. To add an extra kick to the already amazing flavors, special finishing staves were used to bring out notes of vanilla and sweet spice that naturally occur from lower BEPs. The 2023 Makers Mark BEP release is the final chapter of the Wood Finishing series.
What’s next for the world of experimental whiskey releases? With the departure of both Jane Bowie and Denny Potter, many are wondering how this will affect the industry’s growth. However, fear not, as the long-time employees at the heart of the operation are moving forward together in a new distilling venture. As for the future of those beloved red wax bottles in limited edition releases? Well, all signs point to continued innovation and success. Maker’s Mark already has the next series up their sleeve. However, there are currently no updates on what that release may be. Therefore, keep your eyes peeled for the next batch of this delicious bourbon.
