We’ve been suggesting for some time now, when UK fails to score more than 65 points they tend to lose the game. This was only one of two games this season the Cats broke 80 points. Aside from Devin Askew’s scoreless night, every other starter finished with 11 points or more. As far as the bench, they contributed at least 6 points or more across the board. Keion Brooks got off to a hot start, putting up 13 points in the first half. He would finish with a season-high 15 points. Brandon Boston Jr. kept the Cats going in the second half, with 13 of his 18 points on the night. Brooks nearly finished with a double-double, grabbing 9 rebounds. Isaiah Jackson came up big on the boards as well, pulling down a season-high 15.
The real statistical highlight on the night however was 9 turnovers. The Wildcats have struggled in this area, giving up too many easy points. Devin Askew finished the game with a single turnover and the ball was moving! In the prior 3 games, UK committed at least 16 turnovers.
Kentucky get’s a much-needed win, while snapping a 3-game losing streak. This was huge as they get into a tough stretch on their schedule. This was the first of five games which will be played against Top-40 teams.
The Kentucky Wildcats are now 5-9 overall, while 4-3 in the SEC. The LSU Tigers move to a 10-4 overall record, and 5-3 in conference play. The Wildcats will now face the top team in the Southeastern Conference on Tuesday night. The Crimson Tide just jumped into the AP Top-10 ranking, and beat Kentucky by 20 in their latest matchup. This could be a huge swing of confidence is the Cats can pull off a win. However, their only chance to make it to the NCAA Tournament at this point could be by winning the SEC Tournament in Nashville, TN.
