Louisville Cardinals Women’s Basketball #2 Seed For March Madness
The Louisville Women’s Basketball team makes a return to the Big Dance for a 10th straight appearance. Although the tournament was halted last year, UofL technically continues their streak. This becomes the 23rd appearance overall for the program’s history. However, they have yet to win a National Championship. The Louisville Women’s Basketball NCAA Tournament appearance comes with high expectation after an impressive regular season.
The Cards climbed all the way to the #1 ranked team in the country for the first time in program history. The UofL Women’s Basketball team finished the season ranked #8 in the AP Top 25 poll. The Cardinals went 23-3 through the season thus far. They fell short of winning the ACC championship, losing to NC State 58-56 in the final game there.
The Lady Cardinals were placed in the Alamo Region, and will play in Texas some 1,100 miles from Louisville. The Alamo Region itself also happens to feature the overall number one seed. To make it to the Final Four, they will have to take out #1 Stanford, which is no small feat of its own.
The NCAA women’s bracket was revealed during Selection Monday, where the Louisville WBB eagerly awaited their next opponent. The U of L Womens Basketball team will face off in the first round against #15 Marist on Monday.
