Louisville Baseball ranked #1 in the preseason poll for the first time in program history.
The Louisville baseball teams is ranked #1 in preseason poll for the first time in program history. The Collegiate Baseball Preseason Poll was released on Monday and puts the Cardinals as the team to beat at the beginning of a long season. In fact, this is only the second time the program has ever held the #1 spot at all, grabbing the #1 rank for a couple of weeks in March 2017.
Louisville beats out defending champs Vanderbilt, Texas Tech, Miami and Arizona State to round out the Top 5. Louisville will face steep competition game in and game out however, with the ACC having 6 teams that ranked #17 or higher!
The Cardinals also had 3 players who were named as All-Americans. Reid Detmers and Alex Binelas were named as first team selections, and Michael Kirian was selected as a third team nominee. Detmers comes off a strong season, being named the 2019 ACC Pitcher of the Year and going 13-4 with a 2.78 ERA. Binelas led the Cardinals on the offensive side, hitting .291 with 14 home runs and 59 RBIs. Kirian adds depth coming off 26 relief appearances last season, with a 1.69 ERA.
