Recap
UK came into the game as the No. 4 ranked team in the country but this game would be a potential deciding factor for the SEC Championship and more importantly, March Madness. Auburn is currently in the lead outright, but UK and UT are neck and neck for a second seed in that tournament.
Kentucky guards would turn the ball over in this hard-fought matchup a the one spot. The Wildcats struggled over the last couple of games in the rebounding area ironically. However, in this UK vs Tennessee game, the Cats would rip down 18 offensive rebounds to correct that slide. The Cats did get rebounded on the defensive boards, but finished with a 40-32 edge on the glass overall.
Oscar Tshiebwe led Kentucky in scoring, on 5-of-15 shooting from the floor to produce a team-high 13 points. That was certainly not enough firepower to win in this tough environment in Tennessee. He added 15 rebounds as well, for his 20th double-double of the year, which ranks him second nationally in that individual stat.
The Wildcats shot 23-of-67 from the floor, and 5-of-16 from behind the arch. That equals 34.3% from the field shooting, and31.3% from behind the three point line. This was a poor shooting performance for UK basketball team, and the prior matchup produced one of the best in recent memories ironically. The Cats shot a lackluster percentage from the charity stripe, going 12-14 at 85.7%.
