During an early season press conference, John Calipari warned fans that he should be tested for drugs instead of coronavirus after the tough schedule he put together for his team. “I did these guys a disservice, I did my team a disservice,” Cal suggested regarding the early season games against preseason A-10 favorite Richmond, blue blood Kansas, Notre Dame, and UCLA. “But I thought Keion would be playing. So I thought, you know what, we got some veterans, we’ll be fine. Without Keion, it makes this schedule totally a different deal, and basically not really fair for these guys. Kentucky fans who don’t keep up with college basketball as a whole, might’ve looked past the Richmond game, but those who follow closely might have called this game a trap game. Richmond is expected to make a run in the tournament, while Calipari didn’t have one player on the court for his team which suited up for the Kentucky basketball program last season.
The Wildcats actually lead by 6 points into the second half, then Richmond went on a 10-0 run and kept a tight grip on the game there on out.
Kentucky was led by a 20 point performance from Brandon Boston on 8-of-20 shooting percentage. Olivier Sarr looked good with success right out of the gate as he got his first double-double at UK, adding 17 points and 11 rebounds. Terrence Clarke had 15 points of his own to make the third Wildcat in double figures.
