Watch the Kentucky vs Morehead State highlights video to recap the season opener.
The Kentucky vs Morehead State highlights video gives us a few takeaways from the season opener. Although we can’t jump to conclusions one game into the season with a young Calipari team, the Wildcats actually moved the ball and looked much more organized! Secondly, the Kentucky basketball team for the 2020-2021 season has quite a bit of depth, with 10 solid players potentially battling for legit playing time. Lastly, the 7-foot transfer from Wake Forest, Olivier Sarr, not only provides Kentucky with a much needed big man, but he also brings the experience of being an upperclassmen.
BJ Boston lead all Wildcats with 15 points, followed by Devin Askew and Terrence Clarke adding 12 points, with Davion Mentz contributing 10 points. The Kentucky Wildcats basketball team shot 56% from the field and and outrebounded the Morehead State Eagles 37-25. Cam’Ron Fletcher and Isaiah Jackson added nine points a piece, both on 4-of-5 shooting from the field.
Rupp Arena, historically one of the largest crowds in college basketball, looked a bit differently at this year’s tipoff. With the largest pure basketball stadium in the country only at 15% capacity, that means somewhere around 3,075 Wildcat fans were in attendance in contrast to the 20,000 plus arena. The organization is doing some things to deal with this new environment, including pumping in crowd noise and placing 3-foot photo cutouts of signs and fans which can be purchased for $50 and up.
