Individual Performances
Olivier Sarr finished the game without a field goal, after missing a go-ahead jumper with 10 seconds remaining. This is the second consecutive game that the Wooden Award candidate has failed to convert. He was also scoreless in the game against UNC, fouling out after 19 minutes of play. Brandon Boston Jr. and Terrence Clarke also struggled in the game, going for a combined 3-of-15 shooting. Clarke hobbled with an ankle injury, and only logged 16 minutes. The injury presumably stems from the North Carolina game, where he landed funny against a defender in the lane. Davion Mintz led all Wildcats with 19 points, converting on 4 three-pointers. He also added 7 rebounds from the guard spot, 2 steals, and 2 assists. Devin Askew got off to a better start, scoring the first 5 points for UK. Toppin scored 10 points of his own, adding much needed offense from the bench.
As for the Cardinals, Carlik Jones had a 20-points outing off of 7-of-16 shooting. David Johnson scored 17 points of his own, going 3-of-4 from the 3-point line. Johnson also added 7 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal for the University of Louisville.
The Battle of the Bluegrass for 2020 was hosted at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY. Albeit, the capacity on attendance has been limited to roughly 15% this season. Kentucky will kickoff league play in the SEC within a week. This is potentially an easier schedule for the University of Kentucky to get their feet underneath them.
