The Kentucky vs Kansas basketball game was a crushing win for the Cats!

The Kentucky vs Kansas basketball game was a highly anticipated event in a SEC vs Big 12 Challenge! The matchup ultimately hurt the Big 12 Conference, since their higher rated teams coming into the games were completely dominated by the SEC. That marks the second year in a row that the South Eastern Conference has dominated the challenge. They literally won every game, even though they were underdogs to two Big 12 teams ranked in the AP Top 5.

Recap

UK Basketball entered this game ranked No. 12 in the country, facing a No. 5 KU team that was on a winning streak, and playing in their infamous home court, Allen Fieldhouse.

Coming into the game, it was unsure who would actually play for Kentucky. They’ve been plagued with injuries during this season, with 3 rotation players questionable before the tipoff. Leading scorer, TyTy Washington Jr. was one of the key players who missed the last game. He would indeed suit up for the game, but he would only score 2 points in his outing. Nonetheless, the Wildcats would try to replace his scoring with a four other players producing double figures.

Oscar Tshiebwe would have another big game and his standard double-double, putting up 17 points with 14 rebounds! This marks his 15th double-double of the season, which ranks third nationally in the category. He added a new category and career high however, with 4 steals, which seems to be an area he’s becoming consistent in over the last 5 games.

This game would be all Keion Brooks Jr. though, and he certainly stepped up to the challenge we’ve all been wanting to see from him! Not only did he score a career high 27 points, he literally scored 15 straights point for the Wildcats in the second half. He also went 9-for-10 from the free throw line, which also marks a career-best for him.

The Wildcats shot 31-of-61 from the floor, and 6-of-18 from behind the arch. That equates to 50.8% from the field shooting, and33.3% from behind the three point line. Certainly not Kentucky’s best shooting performance but it was enough to get the job done in a tough environment! The Cats shot a solid percentage from the charity stripe, going 12-16 at 75%.

Kentucky moves to 17-4 on the season, and 6-2 in the Southeastern Conference standings, while Kansas is 17-3. Let’s see where Kentucky ranks in the AP Top 25 on Monday!
