Several Kentucky State Park Campgrounds Open Officially on March, 12th
Camping season has officially started across Kentucky. Designated campsites across Kentucky State Parks campgrounds open for the season this weekend. March 12, 2021 was the first official date reservations were being accepted this year.

With KY State Park campgrounds open for the season, park officials are expecting a large turnout for the months ahead.
“Last year we absolutely saw an increase in our campgrounds and golf courses,” said the deputy commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Parks, Will Adams. “Our cabins and cottages have stayed busy, even throughout the winter season, which is a little bit extraordinary.”
As the pandemic hit, gyms and other indoor activities shutdown, and a lot more people turned to the outdoors. Additionally, that built on a trend that was already growing within the area. Camping, hiking and the outdoors has been increasing in popularity thanks to Millennials and Gen X support.

“As people have looked for what they can do safely, our parks are the obvious choice,” says the deputy commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Parks. “You’re just on our own and enjoying nature and sunshine and vitamin D. It makes people happy and we’re happy to offer that.”
With Kentucky State Park campgrounds open for the season, folks can now take advantage of the 48,000 acres and offer 300 miles of hiking trails available.

Most campgrounds in Kentucky State Parks are expected to stay open through mid-November. However, a few campsites will remain open during the winter months as well. While most campgrounds are now open, that does not include all so check availability in the link below. The campgrounds at John James Audubon State Park and Carr Creek State Park are closed for the 2021 season for upgrades to the park.
