The event also featured a #3 Kansas matchup against #4 Duke in Madison Square Garden in New York City to kickoff the college basketball season! While Tyrese Maxey did not actually start the game, he lead all scorers with 26 points. That number sets a record for most points in a debut game for Kentucky players! His record-setting performance included a deep 3 well behind the line with a minute left in a tight game to stretch the lead to 5 points. In addition to leading all scorers in the Champions Classic, Maxey also nabbed 5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal.
