Hi-Wire Brewing Louisville Set To Open in 2021

If you’re a beer fanatic who’s always looking for the best new breweries in Kentucky, the Highlands may become your new hotspot. An Asheville, North Carolina brewery is about to bring a new brewery to the Bluegrass State. Hi-Wire Brewing Louisville will be coming soon! This will become the regional brewery’s sixth taproom, across three states. This also marks the first out-of-state brewery to open a taproom in the state of Kentucky.

Construction is expected to begin in March 2021 on the Louisville taproom at the Baxter Apartments complex.

When Will It Open?

Chris Frosaker, co-owner at Hi-Wire, says their goal is to open the new taproom in “mid” summer. While financing is not an issue, we’ve learned through 2020 that surprises are common occurrences in today’s business climate. He states, “we definitely hope by the time we open this summer that we will be on the other side of this thing. But even if we’re not, we’re confident that we’re able to open be profitable and be safe at the same time.”

Where Will It Be Located?

This new 5,500-square-foot taproom will be located in the new Baxter Apartment building at Broadway and Baxter Avenue.

The new brewery will be developed amongst several Highlands-area bars and restaurants. Nearby locations include, PG&J’s Dog Park Bar, Louisville’s first dog bar. Holy Grale is also nearby, which Fosaker bills as, “one of the best beer bars in the world.”

“We are excited about the built-in community aspect of this,” outlines the co-owner at Hi-Wire in the company’s release. However, this is actually Hi-Wire’s first location that is situated in a mixed-use development. The real estate development features retail on the first floor, with apartments on the upper floors, which parking structures mixed in.

Hi-Wire Brewing Louisville’s goal is to become a gathering spot in its neighborhood. The brewery is partnering with Concept 21 PLLC out of Louisville to design their new space. Some features to help achieve that will be a 360-degree interior mural, a bar with 21 taps of Hi-Wire beer. These taps will include everything from seasonal beers, to sours, one-off event beers, as well as flagship beers available year-round. However, if you are not a beer drinker (gasp), there will also be something for you. Three wine taps will be available for those trying to wet their beak in a different form. While, those of you who don’t drink at all can find fun with a variety of family-friendly activities. These will include soccer pool, table tennis, foosball and shuffleboard. If you’ve ever been to the Knoxville location, you can envision a Louisville-version of that fun atmosphere.

Flagship Beers

Chris Frosaker of Hi-Wire states they have already collaborated on a beer with the Louisville-based Against the Grain brewery. That came in 2018 as a Dark Coffee Lager, rated at 5.5% ABV.
