The Gators traveled to Lexington, KY to face the Wildcats on Saturday February 27, 2021. This marks the second game in the season series being hosted at Rupp Arena. The season series ends in a split, with the Florida vs Kentucky basketball score ending at 71-67.
Florida lost to Kentucky in Gainesville 76-58 on January 9th, 2021. This was only the fifth season split in the two SEC team’s history. The last of those split series came all the way back in 1998. This also marks only the 11th victory for Florida in Lexington, with 52 losses on the road.
Game Recap
The Wildcats had a 10-point lead in the first half, only to find themselves up by 1 as the halftime buzzer sounded. The second-half woes would catch up to them however, being outscored 33-28 in the later half of the game. The Gator’s Tre Mann put up 14 of his 21 points in the second half to pull Florida across the finish line.
Davion Mintz tied a career high on the offensive end, putting up 21 points for UK. Brandon Boston Jr. put up 13 points of his own for the Cats. Isaiah Jackson and Jacob Toppin added 11 points each. Nonetheless, the Kentucky went 4-20 from the three-point line, converting only at 20%.
The University of Kentucky falls to an overall record of 8-14, going 7-8 in SEC league play. Florida moves to an overall record of 13-6, going 9-5 in the Southeastern Conference. The Wildcats will travel to Mississippi on Tuesday for their next game. Next UK faces off against South Carolina at home next Saturday. With their lackluster performance this season, the only hope left for Kentucky is to win the conference. SEC tournament play kicks off on March 10, 2021 at Bridgestone Arena, Nashville TN. Otherwise known as Catsville, TN due to the town being swarmed by Big Blue Nation.
