The Cards jumped out to an early start, producing a lead of 16-36 at the close of the first half. The Louisville Cardinals rallied behind an all around solid performance by graduate transfer Carlik Jones. Eleven of his points came during the first half, when he led the team on a 14-0 run. Jones nearly pulled off a triple double during his debut outing, landing shy with 18 points, 8 rebounds, and 7 assists. This is nothing new for the Radford transfer however, as he averaged 20 points in the abbreviated 2019-2020 college basketball season.
On the defensive end, Louisville held Evansville to only 30% shooting. The Cardinals held a big advantage on the boards as well, producing a huge margin of 18-46 rebounds. Meanwhile, Louisville was able to connect at a rate of 58% while shooting the ball. This performance put Samuel Williamson, JJ Traynoy, and Quinn Slazinski for Louisville into double figures as well with 17, 11, and 10 points respectively.
Unfortunately for Evansville, they were not able to pull off another major upset of a Kentucky basketball team.
