Eli and Peyton Manning Launch Sweetens Cove Bourbon with the Help of Kentucky Master Distiller

The infamous quarterbacks’ are adding something other than trophies to their cabinet this season. Their high end bourbon known as Sweetens Cove Straight Bourbon Whiskey launched on May 26, and is currently only available in Tennessee.

About Sweets Cove Golf Course:

Sweetens Cove Golf Course is a 9-hole course in South Pittsburg, Tennessee. In 2019, the course was purchased by a group of investors including Peyton Manning and Andy Roddick. It’s famous for it’s beautiful location in the Sesquatchie Valley, and it’s known for the tradition of first time golfers taking a shot of whiskey before playing a round.

Now, Sweetens Cove will be known for its $200 bourbon too. Although the golf course has never even had plumbing or a clubhouse, it was one of the most renowned sports experiences due to its traditions. The bourbon characteristics are said to reflect the spirit of the golf course “artisan, premium, and to be discovered.”

“I’ll be honest, I’m not an expert,” I still am a beer drinker — that’s been an authentic relationship going back to growing up in New Orleans, where you grow up pretty fast.”

– Peyton Manning Interview with Esquire

Not being an expert in the world of bourbon, Manning set out to only hire the best of the best, Marianna Eaves. Eaves is not only Kentucky’s first female master distiller since Prohibition, but she is also listed on Forbes “30 under 30” list. Additionally, she has worked at Woodford Reserve and Castle and Key.

Did you know that there are now 2 barrels of bourbon for every person in the state of Kentucky?

“I had a lot of fun taking on 100 barrels of 13 year old Tennessee Bourbon and transforming it into 5 really special batches.”

So, this is the first product I’ve worked on since being a consultant to hit the shelf. Isn’t it pretty? Well, let me just say what’s inside won’t disappoint. Mostly what I’ve been doing for the past year has been behind the scenes, because that’s truly what I am most passionate about… not being a spokesperson, being an artist and creator. Sweetens cove is a different type of approach, embracing the global tradition and appreciation of blending to develop exquisite character and unique batches. I had a lot of fun taking on 100 barrels of 13 year old Tennessee Bourbon and transforming it into 5 really special batches. Although many will argue that the best bourbon is from Kentucky, we can’t help but want to try this uniquely crafted bourbon from our Tennessee neighbors. Sweetens Cove plans to expand to other markets beyond Tennessee starting in June.
